About Us
Alta Science & Engineering, Inc. is a Northwest-based company with over 35 years of history, founded by individuals dedicated to innovative problem-solving through science and engineering.
Who We Are
At Alta, we believe heart and soul makes a difference in a field driven by precision and expertise. Our solutions begin with human values. Yes, our technical expertise guides the process, but we do this work because we’re driven by the fundamental belief that every problem we tackle and every project we take on has significant purpose. We are committed to creating a place for smart, experienced and most of all, passionate people to do their best work. We cultivate a spirit of generosity—sharing expertise, experience, and curiosity across disciplines so our engineering and environmental teams can forge elegant and sometimes unexpected solutions for our clients. It’s a place where people are inspired by and proud of their work. Alta is a place where work/life balance bests watching the clock and where dedicated people are trusted to get the job done on their terms.
Alta has more than 60 employees with four offices located in the Pacific Northwest. Our technical team includes licensed engineers, engineers-in-training, drafters, GIS technicians, hydrogeologists, licensed geologists, experienced construction oversight personnel and administrative staff. Over 85% of our business is government contracts.
Our History
Alta Science & Engineering, Inc. (Alta) emerged in 2017 following a strategic corporate reorganization, signifying our evolution from a well-established 35-year-old entity. At Alta, we wholeheartedly embrace each challenge, driven by a profound sense of purpose: to make a positive and lasting impact on the environment and our communities.
Alta takes on projects spanning from the rugged terrains of Alaska to the sunny shores of California, covering Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Montana in between. Our dedicated team operates from three vibrant Idaho offices in Moscow, Kellogg, and Boise, as well as a key hub in Spokane, Washington. Embracing the flexibility of remote work, our talented staff report from locations across Oregon, Washington, Montana, Nevada, and Colorado.
Within our organization, we cultivate an environment where our team of over 60 dedicated professionals find inspiration in their work. This inspiration fuels the creation of innovative solutions that directly benefit our clients. Our track record stands as a testament to our success in collaborating effectively with both public and private stakeholders, consistently delivering outstanding results, particularly in substantial, high-profile environmental projects.
Alta, a certified SBA HUBZone incorporated in the State of Idaho, operates as a 100% employee-owned entity. We offer a wide range of service lines including civil and environmental engineering, infrastructure planning, environmental restoration, natural systems engineering, construction oversight, survey and UAV-LiDAR, environmental science, brownfields assessments and redevelopment, hydro/geological and watershed studies, database management, GIS, drafting, and human health risk assessment.
Our motto:
Be Nice & Do the Right Thing!
